SAIA seeks trainers and facilities

The Scaffold & Access Industry Association is actively seeking instructors and training facilities for its new Journeyperson Scaffold Training program in Canada.

The Association’s new Journeyperson Training Program is geared toward scaffold professionals who erect and dismantle various types of scaffolding, regardless of height or configuration. The program consists of three training levels:

Level 1 (1st Year Apprentice) introduces scaffold apprentice students to the fundamentals of frame scaffolds, system scaffolds and tube and clamp scaffolds. Basic tools, hoisting and rigging, scaffolding math and industry regulations and safety are also covered. The main focus of the Level 1 class is to increase the student’s safety knowledge of materials and codes.

Level 2 (2nd Year Apprentice) scaffold apprentice students will receive proper and safe work practice training while also learning basic blueprinting. Second-year apprentices will partake in a practical that is based on independent structure scaffolds including tower with buttresses, tower with cantilevers, area scaffolds and scaffold runs. They will also build more advanced scaffolds.

Specialty Level (3rd Year Apprentice) covers advanced theories including weight load math, advanced blueprinting and take-off techniques.

In order to progress to the next level, students will be required to document hours worked to showcase each level of proficiency has been completed. Upon finishing each level and passing the final exam, students will receive a training certificate and card.

The Journeyperson Training Program is only offered in Canada.

The SAIA is also recruiting instructors for the following additional training programs: Hazard Awareness for Supported Scaffold Training, Hazard Awareness for Suspended Scaffold and Operator Safety Training, Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) Training and Mast Climbing Work Platform (MCWP) Operator Training, Supported Scaffold Competent Person Training and Suspended Scaffold Competent Person Training.
