Your guide to World of Concrete 2023

World of Concrete, set for January 17-19 with education beginning January 16 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, will welcome 1,000 exhibitors spread across more than 700,000-square-feet of indoor and outdoor space.

“World of Concrete is one of the major sources of growth for the concrete and masonry industries as the global community continues to seek what is to come in production, materials and market trends” says Jackie James, vice president, World of Concrete.

“This year welcomes an intentional range of new initiatives bringing to the forefront advancements in material ingenuity, growth of the trucking sector and recognized areas of continuing community impact.”

For 2023, World of Concrete will return to its North, Central and South indoor halls at the Las Vegas Convention Center, with outdoor exhibits being held in the Silver and Bronze lots. (For more information on what’s shown where, see ‘Designated areas’ box.)

Hosting its inaugural panel featuring all-women, the Women’s Association of Concrete Professionals will address trends, trials and triumphs faced in the field. Women represent 14 percent of the construction industry as of 2022 currently at its highest and expected to maintain steady increase year over year.

According to show organizers, “World of Concrete proudly showcases women impacting the construction and concrete community and encourages discussions from ownership, management and leadership to emphasize resources for women in the trade.”

Product launches at World of Concrete

This year, World of Concrete also will launch The Innovative Products Award program to provide manufacturers and service providers the chance to showcase the most cutting-edge solutions in the industry. World of Concrete attendees and the WOC360 audience will vote on products and services that are entered into the program. The winners will be announced after the expo on February 21.

Above all in new additions to the show, as sustainability continues to be an increasingly critical focus in the concrete and masonry industry, World of Concrete aims to lower carbon output by introducing renewable electricity in 2023. These efforts are estimated to save 204 tons of carbon dioxide, significantly reducing show carbon emissions. This initiative will be integrated through solar light panels sponsored by Sunbelt and renewable energy sources sponsored by White Cap.

Attendees can also expect a number of new initiatives at the annual show, including the new Work Truck Live! event which will highlight innovations in the design and configuration of work trucks and accessories that show organizers say will help contractors increase safety and productivity.

In addition to Work Truck Live!, World of Concrete is also debuting a ride and drive experience that provides attendees the opportunity to test-drive select Class 1 to Class 7 vehicles. Approved drivers and passengers will be able to experience the feel of the vehicle in a closed, short loop located near the Las Vegas Convention Center. Ride and Drive will take place on Tuesday (Jan. 17) and Wednesday (Jan. 18) during World of Concrete.

Also on hand will be AMS-Merlo (C5327,) which will showcase its rotating and high-capacity telehandlers, amongst many other products. “Merlo high-capacity telehandlers hit the sweet spot for many contractors,” the company tells ALH. “An enclosed, roomy cab (with AC/heat) offers ergonomic, intuitive controls. The low pivot boom, and over 42 square feet of glass (front, rear, side, roof) ensures an operator can safely operate the Merlo anywhere on a job site. ASCS safety system deliver in real time all machine operating parameters. Attachment versatility is key to contractors getting the most from this machine.”

Merlo will also show its compact telehandlers, which the company says “are the nimble go-to telehandler across all industries for handling and moving material goods quickly and efficiently. Simple, intuitive operator interface. The enclosed cab, with heat/AC, offers expansive sight lines. The low pivot, no-flex boom accepts many attachments for greater versatility.”

Magni Telescopic Handlers (C6761) will also show a range of its rotating and fixed-boom telehandlers at the annual masonry event. Magni’s heavy-lift range includes eight models with capacities between 22,000 to 110,000 pounds.

Xtreme Manufacturing and Snorkel (O30099) will showcase a variety of construction equipment at the 2023 World of Concrete expo, the company told ALH.

Categories of machines included in this year’s lineup include material lifts, hydraulic drive and hydraulic/electric drive scissor lifts ranging from low-level working heights to a maximum working height of 45 feet, 5 inches and articulating and telescopic rough-terrain boom lifts ranging from 52 feet, 1 inch to 71 feet, 11 inches maximum working heights.

Also on display will be a selection of telehandlers and attachments.

Scaffolding in focus

For the first time since 2020, the Scaffold & Access Industry Association (SAIA) will host training courses during World of Concrete, Jan. 16-19, 2023 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Courses available include: CPT Suspended Scaffold Training, CPT Frame Scaffold Training and CPT System Scaffold Training (details below.)

The SAIA also invites the industry to join its annual networking reception during World of Concrete. The free event, set for Jan. 17 from 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., will feature complimentary food, wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages for registered attendees.
