Known throughout the industry as the founder of the “Ladders Last” campaign in the U.S., Lyons will spearhead a discussion on the philosophy of prevention through design (PtD) and provide examples of how companies are increasing efficiency and production while removing risk from the work at height.

Lyons is a recognized expert in prevention through design, and is also a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), accredited by the BCSP, as well as a Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS), certified by IRMI. Lyons spent most of his safety career with two of the largest construction contracting firms in the U.S., spending several years working on defense project overseas. He recently retired from the construction industry and continues to push for a safer workplace.

During his presentation, Lyons will cover how to reduce the need to work at heights while increasing the quality and speed of installations. He will speak directly about the efficiency of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) and the safety consequences the equipment can provide. Additionally, Lyons will share a copy of his list of best practices that attendees can take back to their firms; while providing numerous, “Well that’s a cool idea!” moments during the presentation.

Jointly organized by Access, Lift & Handlers (ALH) magazine and the International Powered Access Federation’s (IPAF), the Working at Height event will focus on the use of aerial work platforms to increase productivity and safety on jobsites.
