Safe + Sound highlights importance of worker involvement
12 December 2024
As a part of its year-round campaign to encourage every workplace to have a safety and health program, OSHA’s Safe + Sound Campaign is offering guidance and free resources on Worker Participation – and why it matters.
“Effective safety and health programs use workers’ collective experiences, knowledge and insights to find solutions to workplace safety and health challenges,” OSHA said. “Workers play an important role in ensuring workplace safety and health.”
To educate the industry, Safe + Sound created the “Recognize Safety and Health Achievements” guide, which highlights five steps employers can use to create their own.
“Recognizing safe workers makes them feel appreciated and acknowledges that their involvement adds value,” OSHA noted. “Creating a safety and health awards program shows an organization’s commitment to safety, health and continuous improvement.”
The guide, which is free to download here, is for “professional organizations that play an important leadership role in adopting workplace safety and health strategies.”
The following five steps are covered in detail:
- Define objectives and focus
- Determine selection criteria
- Advertise the program
- Evaluate applicants
- Select and promote the awardees
