United Rentals has launched an automated tool tracking system as part of its Worksite Performance portfolio.

The manufacturer agnostic ProBox OnDemand system enables users to track tools in real time via Bluetooth asset tracking tags attached to tools that are stored in a ProBox OnDemand unit.

A telematics gateway on the storage box reads each tag, enabling it to index what is inside and monitor which member of staff has removed any of the inventory.

Access to the box is authorised via an assigned PIN or RFID-connected badge. The system then provides real time visibility into what tools haven’t been returned.

United said ProBox OnDemand “ensures that workers have the right tools exactly when and where they need them” and provides automated visibility and accountability to tool usage, locations, and inventory levels.”

It added that ProBox OnDemand storage units can be equipped by project or for jobsite specific requirements, “reducing or eliminating time-wasting hunts for tools” in the process.

Antwan Houston, region vice president - Tools, United Rentals, said, “Tool tracking is a smart way to increase worksite productivity and protect project profits.

“ProBox OnDemand provides a flexible, convenient solution that delivers accurate results. It allows contractors to move beyond ineffective manual systems and automate tool tracking. The solution helps them save time, labor and money while allowing contractors to use the rental tools of their choice to get work done.”
