Bauma launch for Geda ‘mystery’ transport platform

German hoist specialist Geda is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the launch of its material and personnel transport platforms, with a new model due to be launched at next month’s 2022 Bauma construction equipment exhibition in Munich, Germany.

Aiming to “set new standards for the future”, Geda said the new model - which will be on display at Bauma stand FS.1004/1 - is characterised by new special features and an optimised load capacity.

While the name, capacity and load details of the new model have not be revealed, like all Geda transport platforms, the ‘mystery’ model will be equipped with safety features that include a speed-dependent safety gear, safety stop and an overload protection system.

Speaking of its 25 years of transport platform manufacturing, Geda said, “There is hardly a construction site today without a Geda transport platform.

“Many key milestones made this product range the big seller that it is today. With a high level of vertical integration, unique know-how and the renowned Geda quality “Made in Germany”, these rack and pinion hoists are indispensable helpers at any construction site.”

Geda designed its first vertical transport platform in response to the construction industry’s demand for an “efficient, cost-effective and flexible solution” for getting materials and passengers up to the required heights of tall structures.

“Conventional material hoists were already established on the market, but of course transporting passengers was strictly prohibited at the time,” said the company, which has itself been in operation for over 90 years.

The first transport platform the company ever sold was the GEDA 1200 ZP, which was commissioned at the “Airport-Center” construction site in Dresden, Germany.

Its populatory prompted the company to present two new transport platforms - the 500 ZP and 1500 ZP - to the market just a year later, at the 1998 Bauma construction equipment exhibition.

Later, the company hit a key point in the development of its platforms, with a revised control system that made their operation easier.

“If the transport platform control is activated, people can be transported; if, on the other hand, only building materials are transported, the Geda 1500 Z/ZP automatically switches to material lift mode with a higher speed,” it said.

“To this day, this system impresses with continuous optimisations in the field of transport platforms.”

The access specialist then went on to create the Geda ERA 1200 Z/ZP and 1500 Z/ZP before expanding its product range further.

In 2005 the company introduced a transport platform suitable for permanent installation in the industrial sector and in 2008 the Geda 300 Z/ZP for construction sites with confined spaces was launched.

These were followed by the SL platform for the Geda 500 Z/ZP in 2013 and the 3700 Z/ZP in 2016.

Most recently the manufacturer introduced what it described a “revolutionary” model, the 1500 Z/ZP.

The free-standing Geda 1500 Z/ZP transport platform, which made its debut in 2021, can be used to lift materials and people up to a height of 12 metres, without anchoring.

The model transports materials at a speed of 24m per minute and people at a speed of 12m per minute.
