Power Briefing recap: week of Oct. 14
18 October 2024
Temperatures in Wisconsin, where I am based, are getting a little too cold for my liking at this point in October. Fortunately, this week in Power Briefing was full of hot takes. Here’s what you might have missed:
- Many trade shows have suffered in the wake of the pandemic, but apparently IAA Transportation is not one of them. Power Progress columnist Jack Roberts said the show offered a number of major news announcements.
- While internal combustion (IC) engine and aftertreatment technology continues to address emissions, a recent Engine Technology Forum (ETF) webinar revealed how biomass-based diesel fuels and additives are helping address decarbonization.
- Hydrogen IC engines are also attracting great interest, as they promise decarbonization while providing power and torque similar to diesel. Hoerbiger told Power Progress International that its fuel delivery system will help achieve diesel power parity.
- The U.S. Federal Reserve Board’s recent rate cut followed others happening around the world. But Chris Sleight, managing director of Off-Highway Research, said these moves are “too little, too late” for equipment sales, which are on the decline.
In other news, Power Progress is attending Equip Expo. Look for news to come out of that event, but in the meantime, we’ve published a number of newsworthy items: a new gasoline turf engine from Rehlko, new compact equipment from Yanmar and commercial mower introductions from John Deere.
