Star Platforms supports search and rescue

The UK’s Star Platforms has supported a volunteer-led missing persons charity through its We Rise initiative, supporting local causes.

Midshires Search and Rescue (MSAR) received the contribution follows Star Platforms’ pledge for all the monthly proceeds from the hire of a designated machine to charity.

This donation will specifically help fund the MSAR team’s essential operations across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, assisting local police in locating high-risk missing persons, including those experiencing mental health crises or dementia.

MSAR, part of the national Lowland Rescue network, provides 24/7 on-the-ground search capabilities and supports the police in major ground and water-based operations.

With over 50 active members and an increasing number of callouts, particularly for dementia patients and flood incidents, the team operates tirelessly to ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals in challenging conditions.

David Abbott, Volunteer, Midshires Search and Rescue (MSAR), commented, “The first half of 2024 alone saw one of the busiest periods for the team, whose work stretches beyond Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, assisting other counties such as Northamptonshire and Greater London.”

Richard Miller, Joint Managing Director, Star Platforms, added: “We are proud to support such a critical organisation in our community. MSAR’s dedication to saving lives, particularly in cases of missing persons and flood relief, aligns with the values of our ‘We Rise’ initiative.”

David Abbott, continued, “This donation will be used towards the significant monthly running costs required to keep the team operational, including: vehicle running costs, insurance, communications, and specialised equipment. Team members cover their own personal expenses for travel, and equipment, with the charity relying solely on external fundraising for its operations.”
